The last stage of our journey before heading home is a small fishing/scuba diving town in northeast Colombia. Having spent so much time on the road and in the highlands, we thought it would be good to spend the last week and a half on the beach. You know, take some time to unwind and relax because our life has been so stressful… : 0)
We arrived in Taganga, a small town of about 2000 people, last Wednesday and after one night in a tiny, hot room with a broken fan and only intermittent running water, we moved to another hotel right on the beach. TV, AC, mini-fridge, a double bed, even toilet paper for US$27 a night – absolute heaven! For the first few days we simply crashed on the beach and sipped on our one dollar Pina Coladas and tried to adjust to the heat…
In all honesty though, the beach right in front of the hotel is “OK” certainly not the white sand beaches that you associate with the Caribbean but there are numerous nicer and quieter beaches a short walk or boat ride away. The main reason that we picked Taganga is because it has a good reputation for quality, inexpensive scuba diving opportunities and we had hoped to try our hand at scuba diving…
