coffee country. It sits high in the hills above the city of Armenia and it seems to be “the” place for all the city dwellers to go for the day on weekends. Safety in Salento is assured by the checkpoints and “full frisking” that all of the males receive at the checkpoints (at gunpoint) on the way to town. Ian was appropriately impressed. The highlight for us was our day trip up to Cocura Valley. A 40 minute Jeep ride and you are in a valley that can only be described as “mystic” – a real Jurassic park.

As well, my loving husband took me out for a Mothers Day dinner with the rest of the locals, a meal of fresh trout and their native anisette flavoured moonshine. The bill will be forthcoming to the kids…
