Scenery – January 10-26

The scenery was incredible…all rock, ice, blue sky and even bluer ocean. It is really hard to describe how breathtaking some sights were. The rock and ice rise directly out of the ocean to six or seven thousand feet in elevation. On the cloudy days, it is grey, with everything in varying shades of black and white. But even the monochromatic days had a special feel that forced you to consider the power of nature and the isolation and hardships that the earliest explorers must have experienced. When the sun is out though, the colours are incredible, so crisp and vivid. The water and the ice pick up the blue from the sky and you suddenly feel like you could be in the tropics. (Admittedly you need to have your toque and gloves on to really get into the mindset).
